Apply to Present at the 2015 AAR Annual Meeting: Interfaith Work for Racial Justice

American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting

State of Formation Panel:
Interfaith Work for Racial Justice

At the 2015 American Academy of Religion & Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting, State of Formation will host a panel featuring three Outstanding Contributing Scholars who post exemplary content on the State of Formation site and are interested in the intersection of interfaith cooperation and racial justice. We are honored and excited to announce that the panel discussion will be facilitated by Lisa Anderson, Vice President of Intersectional Engagement at Auburn Theological Seminary. This event will serve as an excellent networking session for State of Formation Contributing Scholars to begin to navigate the AAR/SBL Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be the starting point for continuing conversations around the intersection of interfaith work and racial justice both within the State of Formation community and the larger academy.

Would you like to present as an Outstanding Contributing Scholar at the AAR & SBL Annual Meeting?

Interested writers should submit an article on State of Formation between August 17 and September 15, 2015 that reflects on questions and issues of racial justice and incorporates your personal perspective and faith/ethical tradition. In addition to posting your article, please send Ben (ben@irdialogue.org) and Esther (esther@irdialogue.org) an email with the title of the post you want to submit for consideration no later than September 15th. This opportunity is open to both active Contributing Scholars and Emeritus Scholars who have written for us in the past, provided they submit a new piece between August 17 and September 15. We are able to offer a modest travel stipend of $300; therefore those who want to present at the Annual Meeting may need to secure additional funding to support their attendance.

Whether you are currently a student, an educator, or a professional in another field, the American Academy of Religion conference offers tremendous opportunities for ongoing professional and scholarly development. We are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity for three emerging ethical leaders to present their work and participate in a facilitated discussion on such an important subject. We are hopeful that any State of Formation contributing and emeritus writers who are attending the conference will attend the event, and continue to push our work towards greater justice.
